This is an unique type of large mortar used in Jeju-do.

After hollowing out a log, place a stone inside the log, which has a hole to pound grains.

The word, Nambangae means “wooden mortar” in Jeju-do dialect and it is also called Nambanga.

Since it has a broad edge, a group of people can pound grains together without grains popping out.
