In 1816, Basil Hall, a Great Britain man, was on Rira to seek for Guangdong Province of China and explored the West Sea of Joseon along
with captain Maxwell of Alcest on its returning back, Basil Hall arrived on land and had dialog with Lee Seung-ryeol
who was the governor of the Biel region and Cho Dae-bok, Cheomsa of Maryangjin, on body gestures along with several pieces of local items of Joseon.
He surveyed 5 islands of the West Sea and sea of Gunsan to prepare the list, and he named the islands in his own ways.
Woo-do was named as the Boppert Island, Chagui-do as the Eden Island and Saeseom as the Hooper Island.
